Privacy Policy
Effective July 8, 2026
The short version: your data lives in your iCloud, not on our servers. We don't have servers that store your data. There's no account, no sign-up, and we don't even know your email address. We can't see your tasks — not because we promise not to look, but because we never receive them.
Where your data lives
Everything you create in Speed — tasks, lists, notes, subtasks, recurring templates, rewards, and settings — is stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. That data is tied to your Apple ID, encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, and accessible only to you.
We (the developer) have no access to your private iCloud database. We cannot read, retrieve, edit, or delete your data, and we never transmit it to any server we operate.
No account, no email
Speed has no sign-up. Sync works through the iCloud account already on your device, so we never collect your name, email address, password, or any other identifier. We couldn't send you marketing email if we wanted to — we don't know who you are.
No analytics, no ads, no tracking
Speed contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers. We don't build profiles, we don't fingerprint devices, and we don't sell data — there's nothing to sell.
Optional features that talk to other services
A few features, all off by default and entirely under your control, send specific data to a third party when you use them:
- AI features (bring your own key). If you add your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key, the text you submit for AI features — like voice-captured tasks or weekly planning, along with the task context needed to fulfill your request — is sent directly from your device to that provider under your own account and their privacy policy. Your API key is stored in your device's Keychain and never sent to us.
- Voice input. Speech-to-text uses Apple's speech recognition, which may process audio per Apple's terms. Microphone access is used only while you're dictating.
- GitHub import (Mac). If you connect GitHub to import pull requests, your device talks directly to GitHub using an OAuth token stored in your Keychain. We never see the token or your repository data.
- Reminders & Calendar (Mac). With your permission, Speed reads Apple Reminders and Calendar events locally on your device. That data is never sent anywhere.
App updates
Like any app, Speed periodically fetches a small file to check for new versions (via Sparkle on macOS and an update-policy file on iOS). These are ordinary web requests that carry no personal information and aren't logged or used to identify you.
Deleting your data
Your data is yours. Delete tasks and lists in the app, or remove Speed's data from iCloud entirely in Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage. Because we never hold a copy, there's nothing for us to delete on our end.
Children
Speed doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If Speed's privacy practices ever change — for example, if we add optional hosted services — we'll update this page and note the new effective date above. The core promise won't change: your tasks stay yours.
